New and improved safety self-service portal
INMARSAT: Global. Mobile. Reliable.
Inmarsat’s global, mobile satellite communications services and solutions are connecting the world in places where terrestrial connectivity simply can’t reach.
As partner of Inmarsart we are very pleased to share the following:
Dear Inmarsat Solutions Partner
Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, is the leading provider of Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) satellite services and offers the first truly global operational safety service. For the past 25 years, our Inmarsat C service has provided the critical link between vessels in distress and the largest network of Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres (MRCCs) around the world.
We are planning to introduce improvements to the Inmarsat C service from the 1st July 2024. This update provides essential information about the upcoming improvements program and how this may affect you.
A key milestone of the Inmarsat C program is our new SafetyLink self-service portal, developed in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) to enhance the user experience and self-service capabilities as follows:
- The SafetyLink portal will provide vessel owner and flag of registration authorities full visibility over their terminals’ status and activation.
- SafetyLink will connect to the ITU Maritime Mobile Access and Retrieval System (MARS) website so radio licencing can be checked by all stakeholders in real time, helping to ensure the validity of the terminal’s registration.
- The vessel owner will be allowed to choose a direct billing partner rather than an Accounting Authority (AAIC). Plus, it will no longer be necessary to use a Point of Service (PSA) entity to activate or change any details of the activation.
It is important to note that the direct billing arrangement mentioned above is aligned all of Inmarsat Maritime’s current and future safety services. However, if national regulations mandate a certain activation and billing arrangement, they will be honoured.
From 1st July 2024 there will be two methods of carrying out activities for Inmarsat C terminals, via SafetyLink and ESAS. Activities completed via SafetyLink will not incur any additional charge. However, activities completed via ESAS using a PSA and billing associated with an AAIC will incur an indirect management charge of $15.00 per month in addition to the Network Access Fee. The indirect management charge applies to terminals that have selected the Inmarsat Solutions Preferred LESO.
Training on the new portal for Inmarsat partners will start in May and invitations will be sent out prior to the training.
Further to this the two barring codes MB002 (MES lost and/or stolen) and MB005 (Breach of Inmarsat terms and conditions) will now be chargeable. Placing a bar on a terminal is supposed to be a short term activity and if not resolved should lead to a deactivation.
At Inmarsat Maritime, we remain committed to delivering high-quality services. The safety of vessels and crew is of utmost importance to us, and we deeply appreciate your continued support.
Thank you for your continued support of Inmarsat Maritime – where safety and innovation converge.
